Love with a gorgeous redhead. -Lucille Ball

  Chapter One

  Rex Malone

A bar on the Las Vegas Strip

He didn’t want to be there. The smell of cigarette smoke, sweet perfume, and hairspray clung thickly to the air of the bar, and his head was starting to hurt.

“Come on, man, fucking relax,” his best friend hissed as he stood next to him. “We’re here to celebrate. When did you become such a fucking grandpa?” Josh asked. Rex shrugged. He couldn’t care less what Josh thought.

“I’m relaxed,” he mumbled, rolling his neck, his eyes roaming over the bar.

“The fuck you are. You know what you need?”

“What’s that?” he asked, taking a swig of the cold longneck he’d been nursing.

“You need to down a couple of shots of Cuervo. And you need to get laid,” his buddy shared, and he found the urge to roll his eyes. Shots and getting laid were Josh’s go-to prescription for anything that might ail you.

  “Josh…”

“I’m serious. Does your dick even work anymore for more than to take a piss?” Josh asked. Rex shook his head.

“Shut the fuck up,” he chuckled at his friend’s stupid comment.

But Josh was right, even if Rex didn’t want to admit it. It had been a while since he’d gotten laid, and now being the Chief of Police at his hometown of Whispering Springs, his days of easy lays were over. Not that sleeping around had been his thing to begin with. He’d just never met the one for him. This little Vegas getaway served so he could decompress and go back with a clear head as he started his new job.

But a couple of shots and some flirting with a beautiful woman… what was the worst that could happen?

“Fine.” He rolled his shoulders and lifted his hand to get the cute bartender’s attention. “Four shots of Cuervo, please.” She nodded, and he looked at his friend. But Josh’s attention was on the door.

“Man, I just found you someone for tonight.” He turned to where Josh’s eyes were fixed.

A redhead and a brunette. The brunette was tall and lithe, while the redhead was shorter than her friend, with curves to kill. She smiled at her friend, and his heart jumped weirdly in his chest like he’d somehow been zapped with a fucking Taser. A jolt of adrenaline unlike he’d ever felt flowed freely and quickly through him.

“The two that just walked in?”

“The two,” Josh chuckled, “like your dick could even handle one woman, much less two.”

“Shut up, you know what I mean,” he mumbled, his eyes still on the women as they moved across the bar from where he was.

  “Yeah. The brunette’s yours...”

“No man,” Rex answered. There was nothing wrong with the brunette, but something about Red called to him. “Red’s more my color.” Josh turned to look at him; he felt his buddy’s eyes on him, but ignored him.

He couldn’t look away from the beautiful woman who was slipping her coat off, revealing some kind of pin-up-like, tight dress that showed off the curves of her more than a handful rack and hips he’d love to hold on to while he pounded into her. What the fuck? He hadn’t had such primal thoughts since he’d been a fifteen-year-old virgin.

“Red looks like trouble,” Josh commented, but Rex didn’t care.

  “So what?”

“You don’t do trouble, Rex, you do sweet,” Josh shared.

“What?” He frowned as he turned to look at him.

“Come on. That girl has trouble written all over those not so subtle curves…You do sweet school-teacher types.”

“That’s not true,” he lied through his teeth. It wasn’t that he didn’t do wild and fun; it was just that he attracted sweet and soft, and honestly, he had never really needed to chase after a woman.

“If I hadn’t known you for over half my life, I’d let you think you just bullshitted me and got away with it…” Josh scoffed, smiling too brightly then playfully sighed. “Okay, I’ll give you Red. But fuck, man, you owe me.”

“Give her to me, huh?” Still frowning, Rex looked across the bar where grass-green eyes met his stare, making his tongue feel too big for his suddenly dry mouth. She was fucking beautiful, and she was looking right at him. He nodded at her and was surprised to see her cheeks flush pink. He wondered where else on her body she would turn that pretty shade of pink. “She likes me, man, she ain’t even looking over at you.”

“Whatever. We both know I’m the charming one of the two of us,” Josh commented, throwing back a shot of tequila then placing the shot glass down onto the dark wooden bar. “Why don’t we go over and talk to them before someone else does,” Josh said, but Rex grabbed his buddy’s arm.

“Wait,” he ordered and met Josh’s confused gaze. “Trust me,” he said, taking back his own shot, warmth f
illing his already heated body. He glanced over, and just like he knew there would be, two guys in cheap suits were over there talking to them. Brunette smiled sweetly while Red looked uncomfortable as hell.

  “Showtime, buddy… let’s go.”

  Chapter Two

  Keira Jennings

“Jenn…” she groaned as they walked into the third bar of the night. The previous two had felt like she had been surrounded by nothing but college-aged kids she could have given birth to if she’d started popping out kids young.

“This place is better. Look,” her older-by-a-year sister, Jennifer, said as she looked around.

“I guess,” Keira mumbled as she took in faces that looked a little more her age. “Why did I let you talk me into this trip again?”

“Because we are celebrating,” her sister reminded her, but she just couldn’t see what was celebration-worthy.

“It’s a little morbid to celebrate the death of a marriage, don’t you think?” she mumbled, but she knew Jenn had heard when she felt her sister’s hazel eyes hit her green ones.

“Not when it was as bad as yours, sweetheart.” Jenn had a point and she knew it. She smiled at the truth and realized she didn’t feel sad. Not one little bit. She hadn’t felt sad about how things ended with Sam for a very long time, if she was honest. “The good thing is you got custody of Megan and the house finally sold.” Her sister had a point.

“Okay. Let’s drink then!” she told Jenn, making her clap in excitement.

They walked to the bar, where they both ordered a beer to start with. She looked around as she shrugged out of her jacket, her eyes going across to two men directly in front of her. Serious grey eyes stared back at her, and she felt her whole body warm up instantly, the hairs at the back of her neck prickling, but not in a way that caused alarm; it was more like creating a feeling of familiarity.

He was very good-looking. From where she sat, he looked tall, but she was short, so everyone seemed tall to her. He had close-cropped hair and wore a fitted black dress shirt over the broadest shoulders she had ever seen. He nodded at her, and she smiled then shyly looked away.

“I saw that!” Jenn excitedly commented, and she laughed.

  “There was nothing to see.”

“Sure. And I’m the older sister. What do you think? Military men?” Jenn asked. She knew her sister was looking at the men, but she couldn’t get herself to do the same.

“I don’t know. Why do they have to be anything?” Keira shrugged, taking another drink.

“They don’t, but it’s fun to guess. We are supposed to be having fun. You do remember what fun is, right? Or did that asshole ex-husband of yours delete that from your memory?” Jenn smiled. Again, she had a point. Keira looked at him talking to his friend. Both men had clean-cut hair, though Mr. Serious-Slightly-Grumpy’s was almost all off, and the way he stood was slightly tenser than his buddy’s.

“I’d guess cops,” she told her sister, who was now raising an eyebrow at her expectantly, “Their posture isn’t rigid enough to be military. Especially at their age, it would mean they’re career military. They’d have the stand down to a T. Instead, they’re more relaxed but still aware of their surroundings.”

“Hey, ladies,” a male voice chimed behind them, and they both turned to look at two men in badly fitted suits grinning cockily at them. They weren’t bad-looking, just not anywhere as hot as the man she’d made eye contact with.

“Hello,” Jenn chimed, smiling, and Keira fought from rolling her eyes. Why Jenn felt like she had to be nice to everyone was beyond her.

“I’m Dirk and this is my buddy, Maury. We were wondering if we could buy you ladies a drink.”

“No, thanks,” Keira quickly answered. Something about the way his friend ‘Maury’ was leering at her chest was creeping her out. “We just got our drinks, but thanks for the offer.” She turned around, feeling Jenn’s stare.

“Come on, honey…” Maury’s hand landed on her shoulder. She stiffened. “Just one drink…” Before she could answer, a deep, sinfully sexy voice answered for her.

“Hey, babe, sorry...” She turned to see stormy grey eyes pinning her down. “I see you got your drinks before we did. It’s pretty busy here, huh?” He was talking right at her, his hand suddenly on her hip, and without thought, she stepped into his touch, closing the space between until her shoulder hit his side. He smelled good. Woodsy with a hint of citrus and musk.

“It’s okay, just glad we finally got something to drink,” she blurted out and was proud at herself at how confident she’d sounded.

“Sorry, guys, we thought they were alone,” Dirk said, hands up in the air as they both walked away.

“Smooth,” Jenn commented, and Keira watched her sister extend her hand out to Serious’ friend. “I’m Jenn. That’s my sister, Keira.”

“Hi,” she said softly, realizing she was way too close to the man, and stepped away, putting a little space between them, though his hand stayed at her hip.

“I’m Josh. The guy with the damsel in distress saving skills is Rex.” Rex. The name suited him. Like some kind of closet bad boy with straight-laced good man tendencies. She almost giggled at her random train of thoughts.

“Want to go get a drink with me, so these two can just stare at one another?” she heard her sister ask sarcastically, but she was entranced as she looked up at the man now in front of her, his hand burning an achy need through her body unlike anything she had ever felt. Not once in her life. Not in forty years.

She knew Jenn and Josh left and felt self-conscious as Rex’s thumb caressed her side. She was usually in jeans and a tank top on her days off, not in skin-tight mini dresses like the one Jenn had insisted she wear to throw her back into singlehood and all its glory. Though, she had to admit, she did feel sexy as hell in it.

“Thanks for saving us from those guys.”

“Anytime,” he rumbled, stepping in as she stepped back, hitting the bar behind her. “You don’t have to be afraid.”

“Who said I was?” she quipped sassily, raising a delicate eyebrow at him.

“You backed away from me. I’m not anyone to fear.” Something about the way his voice went low and deep made her nervous heart calm.

“So I shouldn’t be scared, huh?” she asked, fear and awkwardness fading away completely as intrigue filled its space.

“Nope.” He leaned in, his face in her neck, and she shivered. She knew he felt it and she closed her eyes, breathing in his delicious scent of man and leather. “I’m a cop. I keep people safe.”

  “You do?” she asked breathily.

“Yeah,” he mumbled, and she felt his lips twitch against her skin.

“You’re trouble.” She moved her head back slightly, immediately missing his touch, but needing to look at him.

“Somehow, I think that’s a descriptive word for you.” She fought her smile, but was afraid she was failing miserably. It had been a long time since she’d been any kind of trouble.

“Why would you say that?” His hand cupped her face then tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, and her heart went out of control. From zero to sixty in two seconds kind of out of control.

“I don’t know. Just a gut feeling,” he answered, and she shivered. Head-to-toe electrifying shivers making her thighs clench together. What was it about this man’s voice that made her feel like a wanton slut? Something about the way it was smooth like thirty-year-old whiskey and rough like gravel; the combination was more than intoxicating.

“Hmm, do you think that trouble and cops mix?” she flirtatiously asked, completely unlike herself, but she couldn’t stop herself. Her hand on his hard chest, she liked the way his body heat seemed to radiate out and warm her right up.

“Tonight? I sure as shit hope so.” Liking his answer and the way she was feeling around him, she didn’t think twice when her sister’s voice played in her mind about needing to get herself back out there and experience life again.

  “My room or yours?” s
he asked, her skin instantly covered goose bumps at the heated way he was looking at her.

  Chapter Three

  Rex

“My room or yours.” Fuck, she was a handful, and he loved it. Direct with a hint of sassiness and spice. He was so damn hard he was surprised he wasn’t tenting the front of his slacks obscenely.

“Depends…” His voice was thick with need. She smelled so damn good. She carried a light, clean scent. It was making the tip of his dick leak.

“On?” Her green eyes sparkled with interest, and he licked his lips, almost groaning at the way she stared hungrily at them. Her chest was heaving up and down, her breathing was off, telling him she wanted him and had no problem letting him know it. Fuck, that was sexy!

“Whether you’re feeling adventurous.” She raised an eyebrow, and he grinned at her. “I have handcuffs back in my room.” Her cheeks flamed, and he loved the reaction he was getting out of her.

“Close your tab, Copper. I need to tell my sister not to wait up for me,” she whispered against his ear before he watched her sexily sway her hips as she crossed the bar.

  ***

He’d had her in every way he could think of.

He had lost count of how many times she had come, and he had already come twice, but there he was. Pumping away at her sweet, wet channel, her head dipped back into the pillow, her arms tied to the bed with his belt, her huge creamy tits bouncing back and forth.

“Rex!” she cried out. “Oh, God… please… please…”

“You’re so fucking close, aren’t you?” he goaded her, loving the way she seemed to enjoy dirty talk.

“Yes! Please…” Her moans filled his ears, and he grunted as he worked his dick in and out of her silky heat. Feeling a familiar tingle at the base of his spine, he knew they were going to come together. And fuck, it did something to him. He needed it, and he had never craved to share something as intimate as that.

“Squeeze me, Key… hard… I’ll get you there… fuck….” he ordered and then moaned as he felt her squeeze and tighten around him. His hand moved to her clit, where he thumbed the bundle of nerves, coating it with her honey.
