“Not really…” Meg sniffled. He raised his eyebrows.

“Not even for ice cream?” Meg and Keira looked at one another and smiled.

“Let me get some shoes on.”

Meg said something about washing her face and changing her clothes.

She felt him follow her into her room, her back to him as she picked out a pair of socks. His hard, strong body was flush against her back. She leaned into his hold, knowing he wouldn’t let her fall.

“Where was she?” she willed herself to ask, feeling his lips at her neck.

  “At my place.”

“What?” She turned to look at him.

“She was sitting on the sidewalk, her bike against the tree. I didn’t see her when I got in,” he explained, and she looked at him.

  “What was she—”

“She needed to talk,” he clarified for her, and she felt her brows move up.

“To you?” she asked, weirdly not feeling jealous or upset. It was okay with her as long as it was okay with him that her daughter had sought him out.

  “Yeah.”

  “Did you?”

  “Yep.”

“That’s all you’re going to tell me?” she wondered, and he smiled softly at her.

“I’m going to tell you that I love you. That both of you can count on me, no matter what. Day or night.”

  “Baby.”

“You two are my priority in my life. I’m in this a thousand percent, you gotta know that by now, Key.”

“I do,” she admitted immediately, and he kissed the tip of her nose. “I am too. I mean, in case you were wondering,” she mumbled and sighed when he rested his forehead against hers. His scent surrounded her. Not a cologne or body wash, just him.

“Good.” He pulled away. “Come on. I missed my girls. Let’s go get some ice cream.” He put his hand out for her, and she took it, thinking she really liked how he called them his girls.

“Get there, Key,” he hoarsely whispered. She bit down on her top lip, trying to stop herself from crying out. “I can feel how close you are,” he panted into her ear in a hushed tone.

Her body pushed back as he thrust ahead, their bodies meeting, slapping lightly, but the sound was drowned out by the TV that was playing in the background.

“Rex,” she gasped just as her entire body tightened.

His hands came off her hips and wrapped around her just as her body came apart. She thrashed slightly, but he held on tight. She felt him empty into her, his face tucked into her neck.

She breathed in, exhaling slowly, her head leaning back against him, their bodies still connected.

“I love you,” he breathed. She shivered, clenching her sex while holding his still hard length inside of her.

“Love you too.” He slipped out of her and laid them down, somehow not letting her go from his hold. He had never done that. Held her close as she came and kept his hold on her after. Part of her wondered if he was okay. God, she hoped he was.

Seven extremely long weeks had passed since Meg had run off after finding out about Sam and his disinterest in being her father. Even though she had expected her daughter to act out again, Meg had surprised her. It was as if she had let go of her dad just as easily as he had seemed to do with her.

Though they had hectic schedules, they ate dinners together every night. The three of them; four of them if Katie joined them. Though now, if she let herself think, the number of settings at the table would be more.

“Key?” Rex mumbled, and she shifted so she could look at him.

“Hmm?” she muttered, a silly smile playing over her lips as she thought about what she had to talk to him about.

“Move in with me,” he said as if he was telling her something simple like the sky’s blue. The smile on her lips faded.

“What?” she breathed, wondering if there was any way that he knew.

“You and Meg. Move in here.”

“Rex…” She started to sit up, but he stopped her, grabbing her and rolling them so she was underneath him.

“Move in. It’s a big house. More than enough space—”

“It’s not that easy. I mean it’s too…” She had no words and no idea why she was suddenly feeling panicked. She had to tell him.

“Shh.” He caressed her face, knowing that’s what she needed. “Breathe, Key. Just breathe, baby.” And she did. She breathed in and out slowly, her eyes closed, enjoying the feel on his big, gentle hands on her face. She loved how he could calm her with his touch.

When she opened her eyes, she saw him staring back at her. The love he felt for her was more than obvious in his gaze.

“This is crazy, you know that, right?” she whispered. His lips moved upward into a sexy smirk, and she watched his strong shoulder lift slightly.

“Crazy suits us just fine, don’t you think?” He looked at her and had no idea just how crazy life was about to get.

Pressing her lips together, words on the tip of her tongue, she leaned her head down on his chest. His fingers stroked her hair, the beat of his heart steady and reliable. She breathed in deeply, her lungs filling with his scent. Then she nodded. “I have to talk to Meg, see what she says, but…”

“She told me she would have no problem moving in here. I guess she likes it here,” he shared. She raised her head, shifting so half her body was on his.

“You talked to Meg about moving in?”

“I talked to her about giving you this.” He leaned over to his nightstand, but she didn’t look at what he was reaching for. She was still reeling over the fact this beautiful, protective man had talked to her daughter about moving in. When he rested a little black box over her fingertips on his chest, she looked down at it, and her mouth went dry.

“What is that, Rex?” she whispered, and he smiled.

  “Sit up, Key.”

  “Rex…”

“Sit up,” he ordered again, and she did, her eyes never coming off of his grey ones.

  “You know I love you.”

  “I love you, too…”

“I grew up with a good family,” he shared, and she sat straighter, holding his hand, enjoying the way his thumb stroked gently back and forth over her skin. “Some of them are bat shit nuts, but I love them. I always wanted that for me. I wanted to be a part of my own. Head of my own family.” He swallowed. “I gave up on that dream a long time ago, Keira. I didn’t think that would happen for me.”

“Baby—” She tried to tell him her own news, but he smiled, placing a finger over her lips to cut her off.

“Then you walked into a bar in Vegas looking like Jessica fuckin’ Rabbit.” She couldn’t help but playfully scowl at him. “And it was like a shot to the heart, babe.”

  “But—”

“When you slipped out after our night together,” he shook his head, “I kept telling myself, I must have imagined how good it fucking was. That was the only thing I could tell myself to stop from going crazy. I told myself that every day till the day I saw you in the diner window, but I didn’t believe it. Hell, even after that, if I’m being honest. Until I held you in my arms again, and I felt it again.”

“What did you feel?” she asked in a soft tone without thinking, liking the way he smiled before leaning in close.

“Like life didn’t feel right without having you in my arms. Shit, babe, afterwards, things just got better and better between us…”

  “It’s only been—”

“Who gives a shit if it’s only been a couple of months or days? I know what I want.”

  “What do you want, Rex?”

“You, Key. You and Meg. I want to be a part of your family. I want to be there for both of you.”

“What if there were more to our family?” she asked so softly she wasn’t sure he heard her.

“What? Like your sister and my family—”

“I’m pregnant,” she blurted out nervously.

She had found out the day before but hadn’t been able to wrap her head around i
t. This wasn’t the way she had envisioned sharing it, but she had to before he asked. He needed to know.

“What?” The look on his face would have been funny if she weren’t so nervous. She tried to pull away, but his hands kept her sitting close to him.

“You know how I haven’t been feeling well? And I was late. I thought maybe…”

  “What?”

“I was starting menopause,” she embarrassingly admitted, her cheeks warming.

  “You’re only forty.”

“I know that. But what else was I supposed to think? Trying to conceive Meg was tough. I didn’t think another baby was a possibility.”

“Are you mad?” he asked, tilting his head.

  “Are you?” she asked back.

  “What?”

“I’m freaking ecstatic, Rex. I am. I want a baby. Our baby. I’m just freaking out that…”

  “Me?”

“You. Your reaction. I didn’t want you to think that I just—”

“I was asking you to marry me.” His face softened enough for her to notice through her own panic.

  “I didn’t know that before.”

“I was asking you to move in.”

  “I know… I…”

“Now, I’m ordering you,” he muttered, looking at her as if seeing her for the first time.

  “What?”

“Shit. We’re having a baby?” His grey gaze was warm. “You’re pregnant with my baby, Key?” His eyes went down to her abdomen, and then he paled. “Fuck, I just took you hard. You think he’s okay?”

“He?” She beamed, her eyebrows rising slightly.

  “Or she.”

“Baby’s fine. The doctor said everything looks good, but they want to monitor me closer than they normally would because of my age.”

“Fuck,” he whispered, and when his glassy eyes met hers, she let the tears fall.

“You’re marrying me,” he ordered, and she smiled, nodding. “I fucking love you, Keira-soon-to-be freaking Malone,” he growled, and she laughed. Their laughter faded away slowly as he started to kiss her.

  “Tell me,” he urged.

  “I’ll marry you, Rex.”

“Fuck, yes, you will.” His hand stayed at her abdomen, while his mouth moved from her lips to her jawline. “I’m a lucky SOB, baby.”

“I’m the lucky one,” she breathed, shivering at the sensation of his scruffy jaw against her skin moving down south.

Rex showed both of them exactly how lucky they both were for the rest of the night.

  Chapter Seventeen

Rex- a little over two years later

  He was fucking exhausted.

It had been a busier than usual night. He didn’t usually stay late at work anymore, so the nights when he did kicked his ass. But like every time since Key and Meg had moved in, he felt a second wind as he walked into their home.

Running his fingers through his hair, he closed the door behind him quietly. He took in the scene of the living room, and despite the mess, he smiled. He did that a hell of a lot now. A smile that was followed by the thought of ‘How the hell had he lived alone for so long?’

He had worried slightly about how he would adjust to living not just with someone again but with two women. And then when Keira told him about the baby, she had unknowingly made all his fucking dreams come true. He was determined to do whatever he had to, to adjust.

The worry had been for nothing.

He had made Keira marry him as fast as he could. Three months after he had proposed, they flew to Vegas and got hitched. When their son, Marshall Malone, came into the world a little over six months later, he did it screaming. He was a fucking riot and a handful, but Key said that Marsh kept them young, and like usual, she was right.

His phone chirped, and he looked down at it, his mouth running dry.

A text with a picture of Keira in a hunter green, V-neck sweater that hinted at the bountiful curves that lay below made his body stir, making all the blood flow south. She was pulling it down in front of a mirror, wearing nothing else but her sexy as fuck black thick glasses and a ponytail. That picture was attached to the message: Waiting for you to cum home.

He smirked as he went into the house in search for her. And like anytime he was headed toward her, he felt fucking lucky.

Lucky to have set eyes on her. Lucky fate had lent a hand on Key and her daughter relocating to his city. Lucky she enjoyed what he was into. Lucky she was his missing piece. Lucky she gave him a son and daughter. Lucky she made him a part of her family.

  Lucky he was finally whole.

  Getting lucky felt fan-fucking-tastic.

  Epilogue

  Keira

“Key, we’re going to be late!” Rex bellowed, and she rolled her eyes.

  “We’re fine, babe.”

“Babe, what are you—” he stopped talking, and she smiled.

  “See something you like, Copper?”

“Babe,” he warned. She licked her red, plump lips.

  “Hmm?”

  “Fuck, babe, we gotta…”

  “Shh… we have time…”

“We’re supposed to be there early,” he reminded her, and they would be if things went the way she had planned.

“We will be,” she said, standing up, strutting her red-heeled ass toward him.

Usually, especially after having had Marsh, she would have felt a little self-conscious about the way her body might jiggle or about the stretch marks after having a baby at forty-one, Marsh and her sharing a birthday. But she wasn’t. Not today. Not ever. Because the way he looked at her, she knew he liked what he saw.

“Key.” He raised an eyebrow as if to scare her, but it only made her wetter between her thighs. The way he was looking at her made her feel confident and powerful.

Leaning forward, she locked the bedroom door behind him.

“Babe,” he warned again, but she ignored it as she grabbed his big, strong hand and heard him grunt.

She knew what merited the sound.

He must have taken in the back of her sexy red lace teddy, her ass hanging out of the thong bottom. The front was all lace, a wide scoop neckline that she had to admit did wonders for her now even bigger breasts. She knew her body, knew she was far from perfect, but when she looked over her shoulder and saw the hungry look in his eyes as he raked her in, she felt like a goddess.

And she was in the mood to be worshipped.

  “Key…”

“Take off your shirt,” she demanded. He raised an eyebrow. His lips twitched, but he didn’t say anything. He surprised her by taking his t-shirt off, throwing it on the floor.

“Sit,” she ordered, and his eyes narrowed.

  “Babe…”

“Sit. Now,” she ordered again, looking at the recliner in their room.

Running her fingers through her red hair, she let a finger move down past her lips and into her cleavage, fighting away a smile as he swallowed before sitting.

Confidently, she moved to stand between his legs. She lightly grazed her ruby red nails from his shoulders down to the waistband of his jeans, loving the bulge behind it that told her he was hard for her.

“Do you see something you like?” she asked again, his nose flaring.

“You know I do. You in something red and lace gets me harder than fucking diamonds, but—”

“This round is going to go hard and fast. Tonight, Marsh is staying over at Jenn’s. Meg has graduation parties to go to, so you can be in charge when we play.”

“Babe…” He grabbed the back of her head, gently threading his fingers into her hair. “You going to wear that under your clothes all day?” She nodded with a grin. Rex shut his eyes tightly, and she took that as her opportunity to bring his big, hard dick out of his pants.

She bent over so he could watch her ass bounce as she took him in her mouth. He groaned deeply, and she let his beautiful cock slip from her mouth so she could look at him.

”Ride me, beautiful,” he ordered just
like she had hoped, and she did. She was about to take the teddy off when he stopped her by grabbing her hand. “Put your hands on my shoulders.” His deep voice rasped, and she did as she was told.

“You want to play? You gotta know by now I’m the one in charge, Key.”

“Rex,” she panted. His hand swatted her backside, and she gasped, liking the sting and the way he squeezed her flesh to soothe out the slight burn.

“Be good, baby.” His hand moved from her sternum down to the gusset of the teddy, where he pulled it to the side, skimming her dripping sex with his wide thumb. Her own eyes fluttered shut as he touched her. “So fucking wet for me,” he growled, leaning his face forward at the softness of her belly.

“Baby…” every nerve of her body sparked, coming alive. Her hips moved in rhythm as his fingers played with her.

“Ride my dick, Key,” he ordered, and she sank down on him, her head falling back slightly as he filled her. “Fast, baby.” He bucked up into her, and she did as he ordered.

She loved how full he made her feel. Beautiful. Powerful in her femininity. Fucking loved. The thought of it helped build her orgasm, having it bubble up. His hands gripped her hips, making her grind down on him just at the right moment. It made her shatter and moan out his name as waves of pleasure hit her from what felt like the inside out.

She held on tight, her hands around his strong shoulders, his thickness sliding in and out of her body. She knew he was close. She could feel it. His thrusts were starting to become shallow, his grunts deeper, and he felt thicker than before, if that was even possible. His hands fisted her hair. Rex’s lips fell crushing over hers as his own pleasure overtook him.

She smiled contently when he pulled her in close to him, her head resting in the crook of his neck.

“Fuck, baby, you’re going to kill me,” he breathed out heavily, and she laughed.

“But what a way to go, right?” she asked, and he grunted.

“I wish we could stay here longer...”

“But we have to go. I know,” she sighed before kissing his skin.

“Clean up. But leave that on tonight.” She looked at him, winking with a salute right before getting off of his lap.

She watched from the stands, Marsh in her arms, as the school principal called out her daughter’s name.
